Veridion discovered 15,000 of these active businesses in São Paulo from their digital footprint, confirmed each to a real address, and verified none had a registry record, making a whole invisible segment scoreable.

An informal economy that never filed
The bureau builds its business data from official registries and internal financial indicators, the standard foundation for credit and business intelligence. That foundation has a structural blind spot, and in this market it is a large one.
A great many businesses are visibly active, online, on maps, on the street, yet have never formally registered. Here they are overwhelmingly informal single-person and micro-entrepreneur operations: barbershops, beauty salons, food spots, small contractors, neighbourhood shops. They exist commercially; they simply do not exist on paper.
Registry-based data cannot see them, so they fall outside the bureau’s addressable universe entirely, not scored, not onboarded, not reachable, despite serving real customers every day. The bureau framed the question as a coverage split, digital-only versus digital-and-legal versus legal-only, and asked how many real, locatable businesses Veridion could surface in the digital-only bucket, the one registries miss.
Discovered from the footprint, verified to an address
Veridion answered with its company knowledge graph, built from exactly the signals these businesses do emit, their live web, maps and social footprint, rather than from registries they never entered. A business that never filed still has a listing, a phone number, reviews and a location, and the graph is assembled from precisely that.
The discovery ran as a pipeline. Public web, maps and social signals were consolidated into a single record per business; each record was validated to a genuine physical location, geocoded and confirmed to a real address with latitude, longitude and postcode, with false or low-quality pins discarded.
Every candidate was then cross-checked against the legal and company-registry universe, and only those with no registry match were kept, the digital-only segment by definition. A quality gate removed low-quality domains and non-business entities, de-duplicated, and required a confirmed address and contact point before a record qualified; each survivor was enriched with standardised category tags, a description, contact details and full geolocation.
The delivered São Paulo sample ran to 15,000 digital-only businesses, every one carrying a phone, description, category tags, postcode and geocoordinates, with around 22% advertising card payments and 5% mobile or NFC payments, businesses that visibly transact, concentrated in personal care, beauty and barbershops, food service, retail and small trades, the unmistakable profile of the informal single-operator economy.
An entire segment becomes scoreable
The bureau can now see, and precisely locate, businesses that registry-based providers cannot. Its addressable universe expands by an entire segment of real, contactable, geolocated SMEs, new businesses to score, onboard or serve, and a direct lever for financial inclusion, portfolio risk and market sizing.
And because the graph reads what a business actually does rather than whether it ever filed, the digital-only-versus-legal framing carries to any market with a large informal or unregistered base.
